Free “Lunch and Learn” Lectures to Kick-Off 20th Anniversary Celebration for Pace University’s Health Care Unit

the Lienhard School of Nursing is celebrating 20 years of providing
comprehensive primary health care services to students, faculty,
alumni and family members at three of Pace’s campuses.

PLEASANTVILLE, NY — The Pace University Health Care Unit (UHCU) of
the Lienhard School of Nursing is celebrating 20 years of providing
comprehensive primary health care services to students, faculty,
alumni and family members at three of Pace’s campuses.

As part of a “wellness campaign,” the Unit has created a lecture
series on health given by UHCU certified family nurse practitioners.
The program, called “Lunch and Learn,” will be held in each of the
UHCU’s facilities on the following dates:

The lectures are free and open to the public. Please bring your own

“We have scheduled a number of events around our 20th Anniversary to
help create heightened awareness of our facilities and services, and
also to promote wellness to the community at large,” said Jamie
Newland, director of the UHCU and faculty member in the Department of
Graduate Studies.

A nurse-managed center, UHCU nurse practitioners focus on health
promotion and prevention of chronic illness. The Unit offers health
education, primary care and personal health management programs.
Established with support from The Robert Wood Johnson and W. K.
Kellogg Foundations, the UHCU collaborates with family-practice
physicians’ groups and functions as a clinical practice site for nurse
practitioner students in the Lienhard School.

The UHCU also will have a series of open houses in the fall where
people can tour the facilities, meet the staff, and receive
educational materials and free fitness screenings measuring body fat
composition, blood pressure, weight and flexibility. The open houses
will be held at each of the UHCU’s three sites between 10 a.m. and 7
p.m. on the following dates: Wednesday, September 24, White Plains
campus, 27 Crane Ave.; Wednesday, October 8, Pleasantville campus, 861
Bedford Road, Lienhard Hall; and Wednesday, October 15 on the New York
City campus in lower Manhattan, 1 Pace Plaza, B level.

The Pace University Health Care Unit was featured in Models That Work –
1996 Compendium of Innovative Primary Health Care Programs for
Underserved and Vulnerable Populations, which is part of the greater
“Models that Work” Campaign, sponsored by the U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services, to identify and promote innovations in the
delivery of primary and preventive health care to vulnerable and
underserved populations.

The Lienhard School of Nursing is part of a comprehensive, independent
and diversified University with campuses in New York City and
Westchester County. Nearly 14,000 students are enrolled in
undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the Dyson College of
Arts and Sciences, Lubin School of Business, School of Computer
Science and Information Systems, School of Education, School of Law
and Lienhard School of Nursing.
