Billy J. Barefoot, a student of finance at the Lubin School of Business, was awarded the Commandant’s Trophy by the U.S. Marine Corps for his exceptional academic performance, physical quality, and demonstration of leadership in Officer Candidates School (OCS). Billy bested 220 candidates in his class who were selected from universities and colleges across the country over four selection boards during the past year. Matthew Talibon, Alonzo Meek, and Shaun Vacher of USMC presented the award to Billy on Thursday, November 15 at a ceremony in Pace University’s Office of Career Services.
The first proving ground for future Marine Officers is Officer Candidates School. The mission of OCS is to train, screen and evaluate candidates, who must demonstrate a high level of leadership potential and commitment to success in order to earn a commission. Officer candidates are evaluated on leadership, academics and physical training. To become an officer, candidates must excel at all three.
Students who are interested in the U.S. Marine Corps may contact Matthew Talibon, Captain and Officer Selection Officer, at (212) 867-6926.
