Automatic Data Processing CEO Gary Butler to be honored with Pace University Leadership and Service in Technology Award June 22
Panel discussion on business strategy amidst cloud and mobile computing to include representatives from IBM, Microsoft, ADP, AOL
IBM’s Watson to be featured
WHO: This year’s honoree is Gary Butler, President and Chief Executive Officer of Automatic Data Processing, Inc.
A panel discussion on “Rethinking Business Strategy Amidst Cloud and Mobile Computing” will include David McQueeney, Vice President of Software for IBM Research; Laura Wallace, General Manager of the New York Metro District for Microsoft Corporation; Michael Capone, the CIO of Automatic Data Processing; and Matthew Knell, the Social Media Director of AOL. Dr. James Gabberty, Professor of Internet Technology in the Seidenberg School, will serve as moderator. In addition, a representative from IBM will demonstrate the natural language capabilities of Watson of Jeopardy! fame. This year’s event is being chaired by Seidenberg Advisory Board Members Steven Caporale of Brocade Communications and Larry Perlstein of Gartner, Inc. Both are Pace alumni.

WHAT: 16th Annual Leadership and Service in Technology Award Reception, celebrated by Pace University’s Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems. The event provides a forum for technology leaders to discuss current issues in the field as well as serving as the primary fund-raiser for the Seidenberg School.
The award honors individuals and companies not only for “leadership in the field of technology,” but also for “innovation in the application of technology to serve people, and commitment to community service and education.” All proceeds are used to support the school’s Endowed Scholarship Fund and various initiatives.
BACKGROUND ON HONOREE: Gary Butler currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer for Automatic Data Processing, Inc. (ADP). ADP, with nearly $10 billion in revenues and about 550,000 clients globally, is one of the world’s largest providers of business outsourcing solutions.
Butler has held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility since joining ADP in 1975. Prior to assuming his current role effective August 31, 2006, Butler served as President and Chief Operating Officer for eight years. Prior to that, he spent three years as the Group President for ADP’s Employer Services Group and five years in the same capacity at ADP’s Dealer Services Group. During his tenure, Butler has spearheaded ADP’s company-wide mission to incorporate the Internet into its product and service set and has overseen its rapid global expansion into more than 40 countries on five continents. Last year ADP was ranked #1 in data surveys by Fortune’s most advanced companies and is one of only 4 AAA listed companies in the U.S.
Butler received his Bachelors of Industrial Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. from the University of Georgia. In addition to his work at ADP, Butler serves on the Boards of ADP, Liberty Mutual Group and DeVry Inc. He is a member of Business Roundtable and The Economic Club of New York.
