Stephen J. Friedman reappointed as president of Pace University for another five-year term

New York, NY – April 11, 2011 – Pace University’s Board of Trustees has unanimously voted to reappoint Stephen J. Friedman as president of Pace University for another five-year term. President Friedman’s new five-year term will begin July 1, 2012 after the completion of his current term.

“President Friedman has shown exemplary leadership in his almost four years as president of Pace as well as his three years as Dean of the Law School,” said Aniello A. Bianco, Chair of Pace’s Board of Trustees. “He has been successful in restoring the fiscal stability of the University and has shown outstanding support for innovative academic initiatives. The Trustees appreciate his strong commitment to the success of the University.”

In his statement to the Pace community, Bianco noted that President Friedman has accomplished a great deal in his short time as president. He has assembled a talented and dedicated management team. With his leadership, the creation and implementation of Pace’s Three-Year Plan resulted in fiscal soundness and a well defined strategic position for the University in professional education. His guidance has led to steady growth in enrollment and increased philanthropic support. A new strategic plan, adopted last year, sets forth a clear vision for Pace’s future and builds on the University’s historic strength in educating thinking professionals.

“I am grateful to the Board of Trustees for their confidence and support,” said Friedman. “I am proud and privileged to be leading such talented and dedicated faculty, staff, and students into a very bright future for this great university.”

Background: Friedman is a former senior partner at Debevoise & Plimpton LLC, commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission, deputy assistant secretary of the Treasury, executive vice president at The Equitable Companies Incorporated and the E.F. Hutton Group Inc., and U.S. Supreme Court law clerk.
