NEW YORK, NY, November 5, 2009 – Tom Torello, the Executive Director of Marketing Communications at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York, will join Pace University as Vice President for University Relations.
Torello has 14 years of marketing and communications experience in higher education, having been director of marketing at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute from 1995 to 2002 before joining Ithaca College. Earlier he was a media planner, account executive and senior account manager in New York City at D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles and upstate at Whiteco Metrocom, Schnurr and Jackson Advertising, Miller Pelton Advertising, and Smith & Jones Marketing.
“Creativity has been a hallmark of Tom Torello’s work, and that will be enormously helpful in making known the drive and depth of Pace’s offerings and its graduates,” said Pace’s President, Stephen J. Said Torello: “Pace is emerging as a leading comprehensive university, and I’m looking forward to the challenges of helping the world appreciate the enormous contributions it makes to its students, the New York metropolitan area, and society at large.”
At Ithaca College, Torello most recently created a peer-to-peer communication strategy for admissions that helped recruit an incoming class this fall that exceeded forecasts by several hundred students. He has directed the office of marketing communications, which has been responsible for the college’s website and social media marketing as well as brand development, marketing strategy, project management, publications, media relations and sports information.
He holds a BS in communications from Ithaca College, where he majored in Television and Radio and minored in Philosophy and Religion. He has attended the Management Development Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Torello has made presentations at conferences of the American Marketing Association and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. In his community, he is chair elect of the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce, on the boards of the Community Foundation of Tompkins County and the Hangar regional professional theatre, on the marketing committee of the Tompkins Cortland Community College Foundation, and a section leader of Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership.
His appointment is effective December 7.
